The sun was going down that August summer evening in Wells, Maine. As I was driving down the street that had all the beach houses, I quickly glanced at this garage. I liked how the paint was absorbing the light from the sunset.

Country Motel

I strayed away from the shots of my weekend trip of Wells Maine back in August to the image that you see here. It was a remaining shot I forgot to post along with the "Done for the Day" shot I posted previously. After I shot that, the sun started to set and I pulled over to the side of the road to shoot this. It's another Utica / Schuyler, NY landmark that has been there for as long as I can remember. I love the neon sign. I certainly don't see that in the area which I currently live (although it's not a rural area).

I actually shot two images; one exposed for the sky and the other for the foreground.

The Goldenrod Restaurant in York Beach has been around as long as I can remember. They make their infamous Salt Water Taffy and other homemade candies.

After eating there for lunch and a lime rickey, I walked outside and got an image of their neon sign.

More fun at the Fun O Rama Arcade. This time I met the resident dog, Midas : ) At first he was lying down at the front entrance; so I crouched down and started taking some shots of him. The very moment he saw me with a camera, he got right up, came up to the boardwalk, walked right towards my lens and sat down and started hamming it up for me : ) He loved every moment of it! I took tons of shots of him but this one was my favorite. The owner came out and said Midas was only one year old. Well behaved!

And after Midas' celebrity photoshoot, I couldn't resist giving him tons of scratches behind his ears.

Fun O Rama

I went back to Wells and York Maine this past weekend. My upcoming entries will have lots of images of the beach and all of the places I visited.

This one turned out to be really funny. I went to York Beach and past by the Fun O Rama Arcade. It's been there for years. I wanted to take a picture of the Fun O Rama sign. I didn't snap it right away. When I came back to take the picture, these guys were up there starting to paint the roof.

There's nothing like painting the Fun O Rama rooftop on a hot summer beach day : )

This is another road side shot that I took one early evening driving my parents home in upsate, NY. I got out of my car, and started shooting away, only to find out other people were shooting too! They were hunting pheasants in the nearby cornfields!

As for post processing, I did a lot of work for this image in Adobe Camera Raw. I'm currently reading Real World Adobe Camera Raw to get more familiar with RAW editing. According to the authors, most of your of post processing can be done in ACR without even sending it to Photoshop. I've yet to go through some of the examples in the book.

When visiting family in upstate NY, I always drive on this long and winding road that is surrounded by vintage hotels, old houses and many barns. As the years go by, these landmarks never seem to change.

The DeCordova Museum located in Waltham, MA consists of an outdoor sculpture park filled with many works of art; statues being one of them. This one got my attention the most.

I drive by this empty lot everyday. It used to be the location of W.R. Grace & Co. for years until they finally tore it down around 2006. Has anyone seen the movie "A Civil Action" starring John Travolta? That entire movie was based on the wrong doings of this company and how they leaked toxic chemicals into the local water supply. Needless to say, the memories of that are now wiped away. It's about time.

They were all over the place at Springs Preserve. They didn't have a functional purpose other than being part of the overall landscape. They were interesting to look at. I'm sure they were all fabricated using recycled materials.

Hoover Dam delivers clean power to most of California, Nevada, and Arizona. Electricity is generated from hydro electric generators (powered by water from the upper basin) and gets delivered through many power lines such as the one you see here.

If you're ever visiting Las Vegas, Nevada, be sure to rent a car for the day and take a short drive to Red Rock Canyon. You pay a small entry fee and cruise around the entire canyon. There are lots of photo opportunities. This one was taken in May 2007.

Accurate Weight

While waiting to board the boat for a cruise around Lake Meade, I saw this old scale right next to the exit. Did it work? I'm not sure. It looked cool though; the analog readouts, the rust, and the deep red color. There was a mirror right in the middle which showed the reflection of a fire alarm sign. In reality, it's the mirror that shows the look on one's face when you step on it and makes you think twice about those two chili dogs you might have ate for lunch...
